Tips and Advice

Now I shall share my Derpy collecting secrets with the fandom (and trolls...)

1. Be quick. Derpy items sell out quickly, usually between 2-10 minutes, especially if online. Don't hesitate to preorder something (as long as you have the financial means to do so).

2. Check Equestria Daily and DerpyHoovesNews, as well as all other links on our Links page, often. For card collectors, check sites like TradeCardsOnline and ToyWiz or your local comic shop!

3. If bidding on Ebay, be watchful. If you really need to, you can resort to sniping, but I will not discuss that here since it is against Ebay policy. For card collectors, chances are if you see a Buy It Now, it can be overpriced. Make sure you know what type of card you're looking for, what edition, and if it's foil. Always ask for more pictures and don't trust stock photos!

4. Please be wary of what you're buying. Make sure you know what edition of something you're buying. For example, Foil/Shiny Derpy cards are usually exclusive, but the unnamed Series 2 common is... well, common. Another good example is the Snuggle Bubble Muffin vinyl. The blue card is worth more than the green card version... the Funko vinyl has a "5 bubble variant" that isn't really seen at all. I haven't seen anyone selling anything but the 7 bubble version. Little things like that effect value and what you should pay. I note things like this in the merchandise section, so please read it thoroughly if you're seriously considering a rare-er item.

5. You can always try trading. There are other rare ponies, not just herp-derp. Check out Livejournal, Strawberry Reef, My Little Pony Trading Post, ect. and see if you can find someone to trade with! Bronies are generally very kind people and want to help others collect, not horde to themselves! Always be careful trading with others, however. Make sure you always use some form of tracking and stick to an agreed date. Send at the same time unless you or the other has a decent amount of feedback (20+). Never meet in person alone and always meet in a public place with lots of people. For card collectors, trading is the best thing ever! You don't have to pay $100s on Ebay for that ultra rare card when you can trade toys or other cards towards that precious item. Remember, traders don't only look for cards from one series (IE: they may trade CCG for the TCG). Always ask for pics of the card with a name and current date to be sure. For in-person trading, make sure it's a public place like a comic shop and that you bring a friend.

6. Enterplay's Flash Sales (cards and card products only). Usually random, but almost always around Black Friday or the Holidays. My tips for getting these limited time (minutes tops) card deals ($4 shipped) are: Log in at home, log in on mobile. (DO NOT use 2 accounts to get more cards. DO NOT order more than 1 card. They will cancel all of your orders, and for good reason. Everypony deserves a chance.) I have a AutoRefresh App on my browser to keep an eye on the actual Enterplay Shop as quickly as possible. Make sure you're logged in already and double check your address. You will need a Paypal account that is fully working also. Finally, check their Facebook page. Sometimes they post a time or time range for the sale. This is really iffy. It's been anywhere from 1 AM to 9 PM before. Also, some sales are limited only to new customers, so be sure to read the rules on their Facebook page first.

7. ShopKicker won't really help you get any merchandise unless you go out and shop a lot. Or mall walk. It's a free app that let's your earn points to use towards merchandise and gift cards at places like Walmart, ToysRUs, and Target (along with others)! Definetly useful in the holiday season!

8. Sign up for email notification. Some websites offer this when an item is out of stock. Also, some websites further let you sign up for notification across various sites and tend to be more reliable, but I haven't found a good free one yet.

9. Sign up for store emails. Most websites have a newsletter nowadays, like ToyWiz, Amazon, Mattel (okay, that last one really only helps if you collect Monster High), but Hasbro has one too IIRC. Make sure you have these emails sorted to a junk email or a junk box because they will pile up fast.

10. Check here! Yes, on occasion you may see my Availible/Wishlist page update. I will put special contests or extra merch I have obtained there if I'm looking for something inparticular or just want to help out other fans.
